(How To Get Rid of Ingrown Hair and Prevent Them from Appearing?)

Almost every woman desires to have smooth legs and bikini zone, while men desire to have a nicely trimmed and well groomed beard – but the most common consequence of the invasive treatments of depilation and improper shaving is ingrown hair.

This health and esthetic problem appears when hair during its reappearing, changes its direction and instead of coming out on the surface of the skin, it grows back again and after that, inflammation appears.

How to treat ingrown hair properly?

Ingrown hair rolls back itself and starts returning into the follicle or it is hair which doesn’t grow out from the follicle and stays inside the skin instead. Ingrown hair can appear on the face, neck, legs or any other part of the body. Usually, those irritations are small, but they can be painful and ugly. What’s more, if it doesn’t get treated, ingrown hair can become infected. Unfortunately, while ingrown hair is a common appearance with people who have curly hair, almost every single person will once have at least some ingrown hair and if you shave regularly, you may have it more often.

Do you have some now?
Follow these instructions, get rid of it and don’t let it reappear again.

Scrub the problematic area. Mildly rub the ingrown hair twice a day. It will help you remove the dead skin cells, the dirt and the greasiness which maybe surround the ingrown hair. That may also help the point of the hair to break out of the skin. A good scrub can have this effect, but don’t do it very often so that the surface around the ingrown hair doesn’t start to bleed. It is very difficult to remove ingrown hair under a scab. When you don’t know what you’re doing, make a gentle scrub but make it last longer. Try affecting the ingrown hair from different sides. Use a scrub glove or try some of the following advices:

  • Apply some anti-acne cream. Ingrown hair is quite similar to acne, especially when it is followed by pus. Apply some hydrogen peroxide or salic acid several times a day, for several days. This, combined with an everyday scrub is often enough to remove ingrown hair, because the swelling will decrease as soon as the hair has more space to grow out (than to grow back in).
  • Put a warm, wet covering on the surface and leave it for several minutes so that you can soften your skin. You may only put a wet towel with hot water, squeeze it and put it on the ingrown hair. When the towel cools, dip it in hot water again. If you can see the ingrown hair “encapsuled” into the skin, this procedure will soften the hair and draw it closer to the surface. If you can’t see the hair right away, put the warm towel until it rises to the surface of the skin. If you put a covering for ten minutes and still can’t see the hair, you won’t be able to remove it by yourself or it’s something else.
  • Use a sterile needle, tweezers or a medical appliance for ingrown hair so that you could gently pull it out of the skin. A warm covering should push the hair to the surface of the skin – don’t dig the hair if you can’t reach it easily. Don’t extract the hair completely if you can avoid it; just make sure that the end of the ingrown hair is out of the skin. It can take a while until you get the hair out: be patient and don’t cut your skin.
  • You will sometimes see the knot of the hair close to the surface of the skin. It means that the point of the hair started to grow inside the skin. If you can put a needle into the knot and gently pull, the end will probably loosen.
  • If you decide to use tweezers, remember to use the ones with sharp points. If you use it carefully, tweezers with a sharp point can do less damage to the skin around the hair. Another choice is a medical appliance for ingrown hair which doesn’t damage the surrounding skin or the hair follicle.
  • Rinse the area around (the once) ingrown hair with hot water and hydrating soap. Apply an antiseptic as an additional means against infections. Avoid wearing tight clothes on that area and make a scrub regularly to prevent new ingrown hair. You may want to apply a physiological solution and in that way prevent the appearance of new ingrown hair.

2 steps how to prevent new ingrown hair:

An unwanted ingrown hair can be decreased with the help of 2 very effective natural home-made recipes.

  1. SCRUB AGAINST INGROWN HAIR:

The scrub serves to remove the dead cells from the surface of the skin which are very important to be removed before depilation because they block the growth of the hair and cause their reappearing.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of poppy seeds
  • 1 cup of almond oil

Preparation:

Mix the poppy seeds and the almond oil in a glass bowl until the mixture is even. Leave it to rest for half an hour until the ingredients join together and after that it is ready to be used.

How to use it:

Apply the prepared scrub on a sponge and rub it with gentle circular movements across the whole surface of the skin that you’re preparing for depilation. The poppy seeds will make an invasion of dead skin cells while the almond oil will calm your skin and nourish it, as well as give the necessary moisture to your skin.

  1. HOME-MADE CREAM AGAINST INGROWN HAIR:

Bentonite clay when it comes in touch with water behaves like a sponge and draws out the toxins from your skin, as well as the excess of fats (you can get it in the pharmacies). Thanks to its antiviral properties, it renews the damaged skin and opens the pores so that the newly ingrown hair is made easier to come out.

Honey is one of the best natural hydration ingredients and the ethereal oils have an anti-inflammatory effect, while the vitamin E oil heals the damaged skin as an excellent antioxidant.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 cup of bentonite clay (you can get it in the pharmacies)
  • 7 drops of vitamin E oil
  • 3 drops of chamomile, lavender and tea tree ethereal oil

Preparation:

Mix the clay with the honey in a glass bowl until you get a homogenous mass. Then add the vitamin E and the ethereal oils. So that you can get a more creamy texture, add drop by drop of hot water and stir it well.

How to use it:

After the rub and the depilation, rinse your legs well in a hot water and dry them. Then apply the prepared cream on the whole area and leave it to work for about 15 minutes. After that, gently remove the mixture with a towel dipped into hot water and dry the area of your skin.
