Still, you shouldn’t worry about its height. Your avocado won’t reach that height.

How to grow avocado from seed or pit

The point of growing your own avocado tree is getting a pit from an over ripe avocado. There are some supermarkets that will put their over ripe avocados on sale on low price, making it more available to you.

Follow the next instructions below on how to grow avocado tree in your environment:

  1. Extract the seed and wash off with water all the green remains from the fruit.
  2. Dry the seed by gently rubbing it with soft paper towel.
  3. With 3 toothpicks stab the seed gently at about 1/3 of the height.
  4. Put the avocado seed or pit with point up in a glass jar filled with lukewarm water.
  5. Put the jar in a warm place but take pay attention not to put it under direct sunlight.
  6. Check the water level everyday and make sure that at least 1 inch of the pit is soaked in water.
  7. In 4 to 6 weeks, the pit will split by itself. Stem will sprout from the top and roots will start to grow at bottom. If you there aren`t  any changes in the pit in the first two weeks, throw away the pit and buy another avocado and begin all over.
  8. When the stem is grown up to 6 inches you should cut it in half in order to strengthen the stem. As days passes by, there will be a plenty leaves and more roots.
  9. After another 3 weeks you will need to plant the avocado seedling. Take a flower-pot and add in some enriched potting soil up to about an inch to the top.  Make a small hole with your finger in the middle by pushing the soil down and then put the pit in. Be careful that the top must stay above the dirt level and the stem is straight up.

Watering is ordinary normal. Just pay attention that the soil is always wet, but not muddy.

Because of the fact that avocado loves sunlight, it would be brilliant to put in near a window. This will give the essential sunlight.

Just to recap pay attention to take care of the following tips:

  • The tree will grow larger if it is getting more sunlight.
  • Water lightly on daily basis, making sure that the soil is always wet.
  • If the leaves begin to get more yellow color, you are over-watering.
  • If the leaves start getting more brownish and fry at the tips, the soil might have intake too much salt. To fix this, let the water flow freely into the pot, and after that drain.

When your avocado tree grow up about 12 inches high, cut it down to half. This will cause the tree to grow sideways and to have more leaves.

Soon after that you will have a beautiful high leafy avocado tree. The tree should provide fruits in about 8 to 14 years.
